"Overwhelming support" consisted of a survey sent to 3000 residents of Braunton, who did not reside near the proposed road but on the other side of Braunton, which is where they were led to believe the road would lead.
10% of the total questionnaires were returned, of which 82% supported the proposal. In other words the "overwhelming support" is a total of 246 people.
Which is 3% of the population of Braunton!

No council official ever approached the group to ask them to leave the site.

A gesture of good faith! Would this have been necessary had the council attempted to communicate with the objectors.
